Commission Releases Decision on Reporting Timeline

Revised Timeline for Submission of Fuel Consumption Information and Plans Approved
March 12, 2013

The commission is releasing its decision on a recent application from BC Ferries that requests that the submission of information and plans on fuel consumption be modified as required under Commission Order 12-03.

Commission Order 12-03 authorizes fuel deferral accounts to be established and requires BC Ferries to submit information and plans for commission approval.  This includes targets,  results and effectiveness of fuel consumption reduction measures and fuel procurement strategies and updates on BC Ferries’ plan to transition to use of alternate fuels.  The timeline for information was orginally set at 30 days prior to the start of the next fiscal year.

BC Ferries asked that this timeline be changed to no earlier than 90 days after the end of the fiscal year to allow for a more complete picture of its fiscal year; the finalization of monthly fuel invoices and consumption and consistency of reported results with audited statements.

The commissioners find this request to be generally reasonable.  However, in the interest of ferry users and taxpayers, decided that the reporting timeline should not be open ended. Therefore, the commissioners decided that the reporting timeline should be no later than 90 days after the end of each fiscal year.
