The Commission requires BC Ferries to report on the quality of its services every quarter and to show changes over time. There are two measures for each route:
- On-time performance (i.e. percentage of sailings which actually depart within ten minutes of scheduled departure) and
- Overloads (i.e. percentage of sailings which depart full, leaving customers behind to wait for the next sailing).
The Commission also receives BC Ferries’ quarterly reports on sailing cancellations and reasons for them.
Here is the latest full-year Service Quality Report for the year ending March 31, 2011. Full year reports for earlier years can be found in a section of BC Ferries’ Annual Reports to the Commission.
Because of seasonal weather and traffic patterns, BC Ferries’ service performance varies by season. For comparisons over time, it is more meaningful to compare the same quarter of each year. For service quality reports by quarter, see the table below.
